The American Gold Eagles have been on the market since 1986. Their minting is restricted to gold actually mined in the U.S., and the government guarantees their quality and purity. The design was inspired by Augustus Saint-Gaudens's Striding Liberty Double Eagle $20 gold coin, minted from 1907 to 1933. On the back is a nest of American eagles, symbolizing America's families.
